Berry Hand Pies
Ingredients
Pastry
1/4 cup butter
Berry Filling
3 tbsp white sugar
1 1/2 cups frozen or fresh berries
Topping
2 tbsp white sugar
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
If using frozen berries mix together the berries, sugar and cornstarch. Then heat over medium low heat till no longer frozen but still cold. If using fresh berries you don't have to heat the mixture.
In a medium bowl mix together flour and salt. Cut in the butter till it is pea sized pieces. Sprinkle in water while mix the dough. Continue mixing till a stiff dough forms. Wrap dough in saran and refrigerate for 10 minutes.
Roll out dough till very thin about 3 mm. Cut into desired shapes I cut mine into hearts but you could also do circles.
Wet the edges of the pastry. Fill with a tbs of filling. Top with matching piece of pastry and pinch edges together till sealed. Repeat till all of the pastry is used up.
Brush hand pies with milk. Then sprinkle with sugar and bake for 15 - 20 minutes till lightly browned.
